Board and Train Services FAQs

You’re short on time, have an injury or disability that makes training difficult, have an extended trip planned and want your dog trained while you’re away, or just want the extra help.

A GOOD FIT FOR YOU IF:

Your dog lives with a Cornerstone trainer for either 3 weeks (for dogs over 5 months old) or 2 weeks (for puppies under 5 months).

Plus...graduates of the Advanced Board and Train (for dogs over 5 months old) gain access to lifetime group classes.

Our main goal is to help your dog achieve a calm and composed state of mind while teaching them functional obedience commands (e.g., down, heel, wait, come, place, sit, crate).  We work on having all these commands rock-solid with long durations of time amidsts all sorts of distractions.  While your dog having these skills will be life changing for YOU, you'll find your dog will be so much happier and relaxed as well.

We also place a huge emphasis on teaching YOU as the owner, giving you the help and resources you need for this training to stick for life!

If you want the fastest ticket to a well-trained dog and would prefer to leave the bulk of training to the experts, a Board and Train is your jam!

Most definitely!

It would not make any sense for us to put the work into training your dog without teaching you how to maintain the training in the process!  That's like giving you a Ferrari without you knowing how to drive a car.

We have condensed down our "Chaos to Calm" course to create a specific workbook and video bundle just for our Board and Train clients.  You'll always have access to that information to refer to whenever you need it.

In addition, there will be a go-home session with your trainer on the day you pick your dog up.  Your trainer will demonstrate all your dog can do and teach you how to do it too.

Then about a week later, you will have another session to see what questions have come up and to work on any lingering issues.
And always remember, lifetime group classes after that!

Dogs of any age (and breed) are welcome!

If your dog is already over 5 months old, your Board and Train will be 3 weeks long with a go-home session, follow-up session, and lifetime group classes.

If you are interested in doing the 2-week Board and Train with your young puppy, we require having a plan in place for the training program you will do once your puppy is old enough (another board and train, working one-on-one with a personal trainer, or our online "Chaos to Calm" course).

A Puppy Board and Train is wonderful,  but in order to get the guaranteed results we love, it requires doing additional training when your dog is older.

Just contact us and we can talk you through the options to find your best fit.

Likely not.  Our Board and Train openings are very limited.

If you want to know when the next available opening is, contact us and we'd be happy to let you know.

To secure your spot for an upcoming Board and Train, we require a $500 deposit.  Once you have secured your spot with a deposit, you can eagerly await your Board and Train start date.

Good things ahead!  So good!

We make use of leashes, crates, prong collars, slip leads, e-collars, toys, and food.  Because we want only the highest quality, our prong collar and ecollar are included in the price of any "Chaos to Calm" program, including the Board and Train!

They are often misunderstood or misused.  If you are unfamilar with any of these tools, we introduce them to you and explain why and how we use them in every free consultation.  We even have you feel the stim on the ecollar (which uses the same technology as a tens unit used in physical therapy).

These are wonderful tools!  But even more important is the technique with which they're used.  Even the best of tools if used incorrectly can be a BAD tool. Take a hammer for instance...

That's why we are adamant about what specific tools we use and about teaching our clients how to use them correctly.

If after the consultation you still don't want to use these tools, we may not be the right fit for you.

The guarantee with our Board and Train service is that you will be completely satisfied or we will continue to work with you at no extra cost, as long as you remain the owner of your dog.

And you get the VIP treatment:  THREE weeks to a more calm, trusted K9 companion.  Lucky!

Remember also that you have access to lifetime group classes.

We won't leave you hangin'!  We're here for you!

You say "Eight weeks to a more calm, trusted k9 companion...guaranteed.  So what is that guarantee?

Lifetime group classes are offered only to "Chaos to Calm" graduates who have upgraded with In-Person or Board and Train services.

They are generally offered once a month and are run by our amazing Cornerstone team of trainers.  We do a variety of activities focused on working with our dogs.  Group classes are held at each location and graduates receive an email each month so they know when and where group classes are being held.

Since everyone at group class has gone through the "Chaos to Calm" course, everyone has the same rules and boundaries.  It is a wonderful way to socialize your dog in a safe environment and keep your training skills sharp.

It also provides life-long access to a Cornerstone trainer.  You can always come and ask your questions and get hands-on help.

We are here for you!  For life!

If you are looking for the cheapest option out there, we are not what you're looking for.

Because of how time intensive a Board and Train is for us, this service is the most expensive service we offer.

We strive to offer the highest-quality program that gives you the best support and results.

Customer satisfaction is our number one focus.

We do not offer payment plans for our Board and Train service.  But the payments are broken up as follows:

There is a $500 deposit required to hold your spot in any upcoming Board and Train.  That goes toward the total cost of your Board and Train.

Then because of the nature of a Board and Train and the work we will be putting in from the moment we have your dog with us, we require half down of the remaining amount on drop off.

The final portion to be paid off at the go-home session.

We find that having an owner visit their dog during the Board and Train is not good for the dog's progress.

Dogs are so very good at being present in whatever situation they're in.  Generally after a few days of a Board and Train, it's like the dog says, "Well, this seems to be my new world.  I guess I better learn the rules here."  And the dog starts to slip into a good rhythm.

To have you step into the picture midway through training, their worlds collide and it can be confusing.

But we understand that it's difficult to be seperated from your dog for that long!  That's why we provide at least weekly updates for you!  Our favorite way to do that is through Instagram stories.  But if that doesn't work for you, let us know.

And let us reassure you, your dog WILL remember you and be able to bond with you after the Board and Train!  It's all good!

Aren't dogs amazing?!

We will be utilizing the crate during the Board and Train.  It is such an amazing training tool!

Your dog will also spend a significant amount of time in training sessions, having playtime, spending time with the trainer's family (usually while also working on training), out on field trips (also while working on training), and out on daily training walks.  Believe me, they will be needing some crate time to rest from all that training!

If you have any struggles or reservations with the crate but are interested in doing a Board and Train, let us know when you sign up.  With a deposit to secure your spot in a Board and Train, we would be happy to grant you free access to our Crate Training program.  There is an hour of instruction there on why and how we use the kennel/crate.  It will be so helpful to you!

Start using the crate to give your dog a headstart in his Board and Train learning.  Trust us, it's gonna be good!
